Care of Makeup Brushes

Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Every few months you need to clean your makeup brushes if you use them every day. It's not hard. Just wet them with a little warm water and gently work a drop of mild liquid soap into them. Be careful not to smash the bristles because you can damage them. Expensive cleaning solutions are not really necessary. Rinse and reshape the bristles and gently squeeze out excess water with a towel. Let them air dry with the bristles hanging over the edge of a counter.

Don't ever leave a brush soaking in water which can cause it to rust or come unglued, or give it a permanent bed by resting on it's head. Same goes for storing your brushes normally -- keep the heads up so they don't get smashed. Use your brushes very gently and don't grind them into the products. This will cause them to wear out sooner and become misshapen.

Sponge applicators and powder puffs can also be cleaned with soap and water.
