Girl Scout Beauty Tips

Wednesday, August 26, 2009
On a recent trip with a group Girl Scouts, I found that even younger girls (middle school age) have some beauty tips they are happy to share. Here is a list of suggestions that they gave me:

  • Less is more! (regarding makeup)
  • Chapstick is the greatest thing since Girl Scout Cookies.
  • Get in the habit of wearing sunscreen from an early age to keep your skin looking young when you become an adult
  • Exercise and eat right and you won’t need makeup!
  • A Girl Scout bandana is a perfect solution for bed head
  • Get your beauty sleep!
  • Grooming is very important – brush your hair! Don’t let tangles build up. Keep it in a pony tail if you are active
  • Personal hygiene – brush your teeth for a pretty smile and avoid dragon breath!
  • Get your hair trimmed regularly to cut off split ends and keep your hair healthy
  • Eat fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Wash your face every evening and in the morning with a mild soap
  • Use acne medications like Clearasil, Proactive, or Stridex
Most of all, love yourself and let your inner beauty shine through!

Tips for Luscious Lips

Wednesday, August 19, 2009
A friend of mine swears by her lip liner, and finishes it off with a tinted gloss. In her opinion a matte lipstick just makes her lips look old. A shimmery glossy look makes her feel kissably irresistible.

She prefers the “Makeup for Ever Professional” lip pencil instead of the twist up type ever sharp pencils which tend to dry out in the tube and don’t last. Then she applies a lipstick from Merle Norman followed by a moist lip color on top which has a shimmery gloss – Merle Norman “Moist Lip Color”. Her favorite color is “sugar coated”. The lip-gloss will wear off over time, and must be reapplied as the day goes on.

Pedicures For Men, or From Men

Wednesday, August 12, 2009
My boyfriend showed up at my house on the morning of my birthday and told me to get my shoes because he was taking me out for a birthday pedicure! I loved it! What a great gift and a special treat, especially because I do not regularly get a professional pedicure. If your guy is looking for gift ideas for your birthday – this is a great idea! And just as interesting was that the technician happened to be a man too.

What made it even more special was that he decided to get a pedicure right along side me. And believe me, his feet were in serious need of some TLC. He is a runner, so his feet regularly take a pounding and rarely leave his athletic shoes. It takes a special guy to put himself through a “beauty treatment”, but more and more men are doing this all the time. I loved that his nails look clean and healthier and the rough spots on his feet are now softer.

It makes for playing “footsie” with him even sweeter.

Beauty for Underarms

Wednesday, August 5, 2009
I recently had a laser hair removal treatment under my arms. So far it’s fantastic! I really recommend itOnce the last of the stubbly bits fell out, my arms feel smooth and soft and have no stubble at all. I have had no new growth yet. . I understand that it will probably require more than one treatment in order to achieve total hair removal, but so far so good. According to my esthetician, new hair growth will not start again for up to 3 months.

It works best on dark hair -- blond and gray won’t absorb the heat energy needed to kill the hair follicle.

What about pain? I must confess that it was not pleasant. In fact, it has been described as someone repeatedly snapping a rubber band against your skin. I would agree with that. But in the long run, never having to shave again, or even better – to never have any underarm stubble ever – is totally worth the few minutes of discomfort that it took, and worth the price too. Consult a medical day spa for their treatment options if this is something that you want to consider!
