Skin Care Beauty Tips for Winter Woes

As winter takes over and the temperatures start to plummet, so does the moisture content in the air. During these long, dry winter months, here are some tips to keep skin healthy and soft:

  • Drink at least 8 -8 ounce glasses of water each day. If plain water doesn’t sound appealing, try adding a slice of lemon, lime, orange, or strawberry to add a little flavor. Eating foods with higher water content will also provide some extra hydration during this drying time.
  • Our bodies have a natural tendency to repair themselves when given the chance. Getting a good night’s sleep is essential to any good beauty regimen, but especially during the winter. Just an extra half an hour of sleep each night can give skin enough time to repair itself.
  • Even though that super-hot, super-long shower feels great, it’s not good for your skin. Limiting the exposure to hot water will help to reduce over-drying and moisture loss of the skin. Warm showers followed by a quality lotion or body butter is much better for the skin, but soaking in a hot bubble bath every now and then won’t hurt.
  • Use emollient-rich moisturizers if your skin can handle them. If not, be sure to use a good lotion with humectants to help attract moisture to the skin. As always, be sure that facial moisturizers contain at least some SPF (15 or higher) even in the winter.
