Tanning: All A-Glow & Healthy

With summer fun just around the corner, it’s time to shed some winter weight and start creating that brilliant bronze body. For many people, avoiding the sun’s harmful rays is a must and the idea of hopping in a tanning bed is ludicrous. In addition to going to a salon for the sunless spray tan, you can achieve a natural and beautiful look at home. There are some sun-free, bed-free options that can help create that perfect summer glow without all of the damage to your skin.

Whether you want to achieve the sun-kissed look at home or at a salon, remember to prepare your skin before hand to see the best results and the most staying power. Before doing anything, EXFOLIATE! Take some time in the shower to slough off the dead skin cells from your face and body. Dead skin will soak up the color that is applied and create a streaky and uneven color.

If “tanning” at home, choose a quality product that is right for your skin tone. Just because you want a dark complexion doesn’t mean you have one, and no bottle product will achieve that for you. Options include moisturizers with self-tanners like Jergens’ Natural Glow Firming Moisturizers as well as traditional self-tanners such as L’Oreal’s Self-Tanning Gelee.

When applying your tanner, use a circular motion with even amounts of product and cover all visible skin except for the bottoms of your feet and the palms of your hands. Give yourself time to dry completely before dressing and don’t shower for at least 6 hours after the application has dried.
