Eye Liner Tips

eye liner tipsEye liner is an essential makeup product for most of us. It helps to create a defined eye that can either stand out boldly or be soft and natural looking. Knowing what look you desire will help you choose the product and decide how to apply it.

For a more natural look, use an eyeliner pencil in a softer shade like charcoal or brown. Sharpen the pencil, and then light lightly touch the point against your hand. Apply the eyeliner using either small dots as close to the lashes as possible. Line both the upper and lower lashes. Using a small brush or sponge tip applicator, blend the dots into the lash line.

For a more dramatic look, use a liquid eyeliner in a bold color or jet black. The dot method can be used for this application as well but will need to be repeated after the first blending. Using a solid line from corner to corner creates a more defined look, but still needs to be blended into the last line. Once the liner has been applied, try blending with a little bit of eye shadow. This will help keep the liner from smudging and adds more color and definition to the eye.

Wipe Out! Wipes for Almost Every Beauty Need

It is amazing how far the beauty world has come in the last few years. It seems like there is a short cut for just about everything and the world of wipes is a fantastic one! Not only are there great products out there to remove makeup, cleanse, and exfoliate skin (like Simple’s line of all natural cleansing cloths), but there are also whole new lines of wipes and sheets hitting the market for all of your beauty needs.

L’Oreal is now among the many offering self-tanning sheets that eliminate the excess globs and patches that our sunless tanners use to leave on us. But if you decide you would actually like to soak up some real rays, try the Shady Day or MD Moms sunscreen wipes in a variety of SPF levels. Hair sheets by Tom Gibson or Chic can help tame fly-away’s and give your hair a more finished look.

You can also remove polish with worrying about spills and where the cotton balls are now with Cutex’s nail polish remover pads.

Not only do all of the wipe options work, they wipe out the clutter and refuse from bulky plastic bottles and packaging. So you can look good and feel good about your eco-stamp too!

Smoky and Smoldering

It’s a classic look that we have all tried or want to try at some point. Those smoky, sexy eyes that every celebrity seems to have whether on the red carpet or the big screen can be yours too.

To create this smoldering look at home, start by applying a cream shadow to the entire eye lid and the inner corners of the eye in a light shade like cream, ivory, or pearl. Apply a powder shadow to the lower lid in steel, gray, or pewter. Next, brush on a dark brown shadow to the crease area and go all the way out to the edge of the eye that lines up with the end of your eyebrows. Blend lightly.

For your liner, use a black pencil. Liquid liners will run and don’t create the softness that a pencil can achieve. Line the entire eye including top and bottom lash lines as well as the inner and outer corners. Soften the lower liner with a light dusting of the same color in your crease. Finish the look with several coats of black mascara, being sure to apply the next coat before the first one dries.

If you are really wanting to showcase your new smoky look, keep lips and cheeks light and soft to allow those eyes to take center stage.

The Basics on Bases

When it comes to building your base before you start actually adding color, there are so many options and products to choose from and the build with.

Some think that a foundation is the first step, but you can actually start with a primer if you feel that your skin needs the extra coverage. Many of these contain light-reflecting pigments that illuminate skin. As for foundations, most offer lighter weight coverage than before so decide what best suits your needs. Some even contain salicylic acid for those of us who are prone to outbreaks.

Tinted moisturizers are a great alternative to foundations. Products like BB Renew protect skin with an SPF of 15, hydrating minerals and enough coverage for most of us. For those who want the lightest feeling coverage possible, powders are great products. Many contain vitamins and minerals that help to protect and renew skin while reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines.

Regardless of how you cover the overall area of your face, most looks can benefit from a little concealer. Concealers come in creams, gels, and pencils all of which seem to blend well and provide similar coverage. To get the most from your concealer, apply it on top of your foundation then top it off with a light dusting of powder.

The latest tools for a completely flawless look include the airbrush makeup kit.  The latest reviews give this tool two thumbs up, and users say that it will give you a look as perfect as a professional could do.

No matter what look you are trying to achieve, always start with a great base that will help heal and nourish skin for a flawless look.

Hair Must-Haves

No matter your style, color, or texture, we all would like hair that is healthy and looks good, plus most of us would prefer not having to spend a lot of time getting our hair that way. Here are some hair must-haves that will shorten your styling time and keep those luscious locks looking and feeling good:

*Goody Quik Style Paddle Brush – For around $12, this easy-grip paddle brush will cut down on drying time for your hair. The key is the tiny bits of towel that are imbedded between the bristles and help to speed up the drying process.

*Nexxus ProMend – This is a must have for most of us. This wonderful serum helps to seal split ends caused by daily styling, heat processing, and coloring. A small amount worked into dry ends will make the split ends disappear and help to heal some of the past damage.

*Neutrogena Triple Moisture Mask – Once a week, work this into your hair after shampooing and squeezing as much excess water out as possible. Leave in for about 10 minutes while you finish the rest of your shower and then rinse. This amazing mask will help repair damaged hair, restore vital vitamins and nutrients, and leave hair feeling silky soft.

You can find all of these or similar products at Amazon for discounted prices.  With the help of these three amazing products, you will do less damage to your hair while styling and repair past damage over time.    Remember that healthy hair is beautiful hair!

The New Cat Eyes

With so many new products to choose from, creating dramatic eyes like the classic Cat Eyes is easier than ever and more fun.  Celebrity Emma Stone looks beautiful here with her cat eye liner look.  The  current cateye look is dramatic so play around with the look and the products to create show-stopping eyes of your own.

For the traditional cat eye, place the liner at the inner corner of the eye and start tracing the lash line with a slight upward angle. Keep going just past the outer corner of the eye. Go back and fill in the space between the liner and the lashes on the inner third to half of your eye depending on the drama you want to create. A stiffer brush with a liquid liner will work best for this look.

For a heavier look, use a thick brush like CoverGirl’s Line Exact Liquid liner. Starting at the inner corner of the eye, cover the entire lower lid and finish with an upsweep starting at the outer corner and ending at the outer edge of the eyebrow. Only line the center third of the bottom lash line with a very fine line.

These looks do not require any blending but can be enhanced with shimmery shadows and mascara. Be sure to apply the mascara more heavily at the out corners of the lashes.

A Cleaner Clean for your Skin

With all of the make-up available, there has to be a better way to remove all of that without irritating even the most sensitive of skins. Neutrogena may have finally provided just that. Their new Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser has modified polymers that are too big to get under the skin’s surface and actually attach themselves to dirt and make-up for a better clean.

Dermatologists are recommending the product because of the way it rinses completely from the skin without any sticky soap residue. Consumers like the extra lather that it creates, which always makes us feel more clean. Who doesn’t associate the amount of suds to the level of clean achieved?

The product claims to calm the skin and keep redness, tightness, and dryness at bay. Plus it will take off all of that eye make-up you applied before going out. Give it a scrub and see what you think!

The Easy Morning Routine for the Everyday Face

No matter how old you are or what profession you have, a simple but classic look is always a good idea. Mornings aren’t for all of us and some have themselves and others to get ready and out the door in the morning. For a simple routine that will have you putting your best face forward everyday, follow these simple steps:

1. Clean, exfoliate, and tone first thing to start the day right. There are great products that even contain a hint of citrus to help energize you in the mornings. Cleansing and exfoliating can be done with one product; just be gentle and don’t scrub too hard. Follow up with a gentle toner. Witch hazel is still a classic toner that won’t dry and isn’t overly harsh.

2. Hydrate and protect before applying any make-up. Age-fighting and age-defying moisturizers are available with sun protection and a slight tent. These are great timesavers and good for the skin. If you’re not old enough for any “age” related products, be sure to at least include an SPF 15 moisturizer in your routine.

3. Bronzing mineral powders and soft blushes. Apply the bronzer all over and then give the cheeks a dab of color just out from the apple of the cheek and blend well. Soft peaches and pinks work best for everyday.

4. Eyes only need a little shimmer in light creams and golds for the lid then accent with a taupe or light brown in the crease and outer lid. Blend gently.

5. Brown and taupes are the most natural looks for eyeliners and mascaras and can be used on the tops and bottoms to create definition without drama.

6.Finish off the look with soft pink lipsticks or balms. Avoid heavy glosses or products with a lot of shimmer to keep the look professional.

Girls Night Out Makeup

Spending quality time with girlfriends is a must for any of us and helps to recharge in a way not other friends can. Whether Girls Night is dinner and a movie, dancing, or just a few drinks to catch up, it’s a chance to play around with makeup and get some honest feedback.

Go out a little bolder with some deeper colors and a few extra coats to make eyes and lips really stand out. Sweep a shimmering pink or taupe over the entire eye lid area and then create some drama with a thick, sideways V that goes along the bottom of the lid and just above the crease in rich colors like plum, emerald, and burgundy. Line eyes with a couple coats of black liner and mascara on both the top and bottom.

For the lips, line and fill in with a nude lip liner then top if off with a coat of dark lipstick like plum, red, or a rich brown. Dust lips with face powder then add another coat of lipstick. This will make color appear richer and keep your lips in place for all of the chatting we girls can do.

Experiment and have fun and then listen to the honest feedback only the best of girlfriends can give you!

Sheer is Sexy

With all of the overdone, more is better, heavily embellished looks out there, sheer and natural seems almost obsolete. But that’s not really the case. Most guys are attracted to the simple and sheer look because it denotes an amount of low-maintenance that is very appealing.

To keep looking like you didn’t even try to be as beautiful as you really are, stick with soft shades like blush and peach. Since we all don’t have the perfect skin to start with, a little concealer dabbed under the eyes can brighten up your face and hide any imperfections.

Top the whole face with a light dusting of loose mineral powder in a neutral shade. Use a blush or peach on the apples of your cheeks and lower eyelids for a soft, sheer look. To keep the eyes looking wide and bright, apply brown eyeliner by using a series of dots in the lash line on the tops only, and finish with the same shade of brown mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Lips will only need a little gloss in a taupe, pink or peach shade depending on your skin tone. All of these fresh, light colors will create a sheer beauty that makes you feel confident and alive.
