Look Like a Celebrity

If you would like to have that youthful glow like Taylor Swift or Hayden Panettierre, you can!

Start by staying well-hydrated. That seems to be the number one celebrity tip or trick. Next, keep skin care natural by using plant based products that help keep skin healthy.

As for the makeup:  Apply cream blush to the apples of the cheeks and then dust the entire face with a bronzer. A sheer, dewy foundation will also give a glistening glow when topped with a bronzer. Keep eyebrows neat and plucked to perfection. This creates a well-groomed and styled look. It’s easier to leave this to the professionals and just go have your brows done.

For the eyes, heat an eyelash curler under hot water, pat dry and curl lashes before applying multiple coats of mascara or even false lashes. This gives the appearance of volume and opens up the eyes. When it comes to the lips, use one of two methods. Option one applies bright lipstick just to the inner parts of the lips and blends it out with a clear balm. Option two applies a darker shade of lipstick all over then tops it off with a lighter or shimmering gloss on the inner parts of lips.

If you can pull it all together, and wear a confident smile as your best accessory, then you are ready for the red carpet!

Look Like the Girl Next Door

With all of the fresh, young faces hitting the scene these days, who wouldn’t want to look fresh and new like Blake Lively? To help achieve this look keep the colors soft and natural.

Start with a tinted moisturizer containing an SPF of at least 15 and apply a thin layer. Follow that up with a highlighter across the cheeks, nose and forehead. Top the highlighter off with a peach or light pink cream blush and blend well.

To keep eyes fresh and young, use a soft brown pencil to lightly line the bottom lash line only. Blend using a toasted almond eye shadow that you will then apply to the entire lid. Eye shadow can have a soft shimmer, but don?t overdo it.

Curl lashes and apply a single coat of brown or taupe mascara to top and bottom lashes. If your lips are naturally pink, use a clear lip balm with conditioners and sun protection. If your lips are less than pink, choose a balm with a hint of pink. Avoid sticky glosses or heavy lipsticks, even if the color is light. Looking fresh and new can be quick and easy with the right colors and products.  Your girl-next-door look is sweet and fresh!

So Many Eye Liners to Choose From!

free eyeliner makeup sampleWhen choosing an eye liner, there are several options. There is the standard pencil, liquid liners, and gel liners. It depends on your own style and comfort. While liquid liners might provide a more dramatic look, gel liners are typically easier to apply accurately. The eye pencil is also easy to control but may fade or smudge throughout the day. Using a bit of eye shadow can help the staying power of any eye liner. MAC carries several eye liners in liquid, gel, and pencil form that have been rated as some of the best at fairly reasonable prices.

There are also some great options at your local drugstore for a good price such as Maybelline?s Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner and Wet ?n? Wild?s Megaliner. Once you have decided on the type of liner you prefer, experiment with different colors for different occasions. For daytime at work or home, taupe and brown tend to be more natural looking and create definition for the eye without looking overdrawn. At night, black and bold colors like purple and blue create a dramatic effect that really stands out in a crowd. As always, play around with your makeup and see what you like the best!

Lip Liner – its not what it used to be

Many people feel that lip liner is a make-up tool of days gone by, but that is far from true. Lip liner is a very useful tool that more of us should take advantage of.

Now, when I say “lip liner” I’m not talking about a bright red or pink ring of color that surrounds where you want you lips to be in a perfect world. I’m talking about a finishing tool that allows you to define the lip area and keep lip color in place longer. Lip liners can help define lips and keep your lip stick, stain or gloss from feathering out into those fine lines. Trust me, that’s not a good look for anyone.

When lining your lips, be sure that the pencil is sharp but not pointy. Start at the center and draw a smooth line up, following the natural shape of your lips. Go slowly and strive to make one continuous line around the bottom lip and another continuous line across the top sides. When finished, fill in the lips lightly with the pencil, powder, then add your lip color of choice. Using a natural shade of lip liner is much more versatile and can even go it alone with just a little gloss.

Healthy Hair Tips

There is just something incredibly sexy about beautiful hair. No matter what style you like to wear your hair, keeping it healthy is a must. The majority of us has experimented with hair color, used heat styling products, swam in chlorine, or spent too much time in the sun. All of these things combined with other environmental factors can do some serious damage to hair.

In order to combat and repair some of that damage, start by using some quality products. Don’t confuse quality with price. There are a lot of inexpensive products on the market that can do wonders for your hair. Suave, Pantene, Fructis and Neutrogena all have quality hair care products that range from $2 to $12.

Start with a shampoo geared towards your hair type. If you are finding flakes on your little black dress, try Frustis’ new line of anti-dandruff shampoos for different hair types. The contain microbeads that help to exfoliate the scalp build-up that causes a lot of the flakes. Follow this up with a quality conditioner containing vitamins and nutrients that will help to replenish hair. For a weekly conditioning treatment, try Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask.

Once out of the shower, remember not to brush wet hair but use a wide-tooth comb. Avoid styling products with alcohol since they tend to dry hair out even more. Many smoothing gels and serums come with added vitamins that help hair stay soft, look for these as an alternative to gels and sprays.

Finally, be sure to have hair trimmed regularly. This not only eliminates dry, dead ends, but also encourages new, healthy hair growth. So, however you style your hair, keep it healthy and sexy!

Mineral MakeUp

Mineral makeup is not a new phenomenon, but it does seem to be gaining in popularity since it first hit the market in the 1970′s. Although some people have pooh-poohed the mineral makeup craze, it does have some benefits and should be considered by most of us as a great makeup alternative. Mineral makeup seems to be more natural looking on most of us as long as it is applied correctly. Any makeup will looked caked on if it has been.

The most popular application method is the tap, swirl, and buff approach. Dip your brush into the powder, tap off the excess, swirl brush onto skin, and then buff to smooth and remove any excess. For more coverage, try using a flat top brush instead of a round one. For many, mineral makeup wears better than liquid makeup and feels lighter on their skin. Don’t be confused into thinking that mineral makeup is some all natural product.  Along with all other makeup, it contains minerals like zinc oxide which is synthetic and not natural.

Both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (another ingredient in most mineral makeups) block sun physically so mineral makeup does offer some sun protection for days when you’re just running around. Zinc oxide also can help to calm irritated skin because of its anti-inflammatory properties. The key to mineral makeup is actually what it doesn’t contain like oils, dyes, and fragrances. For this reason, it seems to be a better choice for those with sensitive skin and is often recommended by dermatologist.

These missing ingredients mean that is doesn’t normally irritate skin like some cosmetics. Thanks to the boom in popularity of mineral makeup, it now comes in more products than just face powder and foundation. It now also comes in bronzers, blush, eye shadows, and even lipsticks.

Mineral makeup is definitely worth a try the next time you restock your cosmetics drawer.

Botox – What’s it all about?

botox tipsSince the FDA approved Botox Cosmetic over ten years ago, millions have had themselves injected. Botox is actually botulinum toxin, which is a protein and a neurotoxin that causes botulism. However, in the FDA approved form, Botox has several medical and cosmetic uses, like reducing the appearance of frown lines in the brow area and crows feet around the eyes. Botox will not improve the look of wrinkles that come from sun damage or gravity, and it will not last forever.

The results of Botox injections can last anywhere from four to eight months. The toxin is actually injected into the muscle and prevents the muscle from receiving signals from the nerves. This means that the muscle no longer contracts and the wrinkle relax and seem to soften. For the week prior to the procedure, it is a good idea not to drink any alcohol or to take any aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications. The procedure only takes a few minutes and doesn’t require any anesthesia. There is usually just a slight pinch and minimal discomfort.

Botox can move around once injected, so don’t rub the treated area for at least 12 hours or lay down for a few hours. Once finished, it can take three to seven days to see the full effect of the procedure. Some people experience a little bruising or slight headache, but nothing too bad. Many people are very satisfied with the results and continue to have the procedure repeated as needed.

Makeup Basics for School

eyelinerAre you brand new to wearing makeup, or do you have a daughter who is about to embark on her makeup journey?  With the start of another school year under out belt, it’s time to arm my girls with the proper tools to put their best faces forward. Deciding when to start wearing makeup is a discussion that many moms have had, but no matter when you and your daughter decide to start wearing makeup, help her by providing quality products and education about good skin care.

A wonderful and fairly new line of products on the market are by Simple. The line claims to be the sensitive skin experts and so far, it’s doing a great job. The line includes cleansing wipes, makeup removers, cleansers, toners, and moisturizers. The products contain pro-vitamin B5 that helps to restore skins nature softness and smoothness. It is definitely a product worth trying, especially for younger skin. Instilling the importance of a healthy beauty routine will help to keep our daughters looking young and beautiful throughout their lives. When it comes to makeup supplies, younger girls (teenagers and tweeners) should keep it simple and light.

Choosing natural colors that enhance their natural beauty is a great idea. Shimmers and sparkles can also be fun and come in some beautiful shades of peach, pink, and taupe. Most girls can start with a few basic products like powder, eye shadow, mascara, and lip gloss. A great option for younger girls ready to experiment with their eye makeup is clear mascara. They can learn how to properly apply the product, add shine to their own eyelashes, and not create that raccoon look with all of the black encircling their eyes. Many of the clear mascaras also come with vitamins and nutrients that help condition lashes.

Lip glosses come is so many different shades and styles now, so this can be an inexpensive way to play with colors and see what you and your daughter like best. No matter what route you take with makeup or when the journey starts, be sure to keep the lines of communication open and have fun together!

Fall Face Must Haves

As the experts have hemmed and hawed over the official look for this fall, it seems that the only thing they can agree on is that vibrant is in, unless you want a soft, natural look and then that’s totally in too. Although makeup tones and shades for the fall don’t necessarily match the season, playing around with vibrant tones for the eyes and lips seems to be perfectly acceptable.

Whether you are more comfortable with the softer rainbow shades of pastels like pink, lavender, and baby blue or the bold rainbow colors of indigo, green and red, you can find a look that works for you.

When it comes to eye shadows, the look seems to lean more towards a heavier liner on the top and light liner on the bottom followed by a burst of color on the lower lid alone. Thickly coated eyelashes also seem to be an in look as well. This technique will work for any color shadow, liner, or mascara, so play around and see what looks the best to you!

If you opt for the more natural look, follow the same techniques, but use softer brown or taupe instead of bold blacks and bright colors for liners and mascara.
