Making Makeup Last
Whether you’re at work, on the road or even just sitting at home, nobody wants their makeup to fade away into nothingness easily! We want makeup that lasts all day, throughout any harsh treatment we may put it through. Sadly though, this isn’t a common thing. Most days, your makeup has faded by lunch time. So how do we fix that? Easy!
The very first step is to apply a moisturizer to your skin; followed by your foundation. Instead of putting your makeup directly onto the foundation, lightly dust a loose powder over it. This will help seal the foundation to your face. The first step to long lasting makeup!
If you’re a blush fan, keep in mind that the powder variety will stay on your cheeks longer. Mascara fans, always go the waterproof way! And those who adore eyeliner? If you try a liquid type, it will stay a lot longer than any pencil liner.
As for lips, if you carry a colored lip gloss with you throughout the day, you’ll always have it for touch-ups. However, if you prefer a lipstick, there are plenty that adhere to your lips and give you long lasting color.
If, after all this, you are still afraid of your color fading, there is one more option. Though it is usually used for theater, you can invest in a makeup setting spray, which will keep that beautiful look on your face all day long.

Makeup for Pale Skin
Many people are very fond of tanning or simply being out in the sun; but that isn’t the case for everyone! Throughout the world, a very pale skin tone is loved by a large chunk of the population. What those people don’t think about though, is that most makeup is not made for such a fair color. Very bright or dark colors can easily look ridiculous.
The first step is finding a foundation that matches your skin. This will be the hardest task that you face, because most tend to be a bit too yellow or shades too dark. Even the lightest ivory shade might be too dark! Cover up your foundation with a translucent powder and double check the colors to make sure your skin looks evenly colored.
Once your base is finished, the rest is quite a bit easier! If you are a fan of blush, a light pink will give you a very pretty rose-like glow. This will add a perfect freshness to your face. Light eyeshadow mixed with a simple shaded gloss can do wonders for pale skin, and don’t forget the mascara!
When you are finished, you should have a very classic and beautiful look. Pale skin has never looked better!

Tip: Removing Dark Hair Color Stain from Your Skin
Have you ever been to the hair salon and had your hair colored a dark color, only to come home with parts of your skin dyed to match your hair? Occasionally the color stains your temples, or the skin near the hairline, and it is very difficult to remove. You could always wait a week or so for it to naturally wear off, but who wants to look like they have permanent dirt on their face or neck?!
I have found a new use for a household product that will remove hair color stains from your skin. It’s the Mr. Clean “Magic Eraser”. It’s a white sponge-like product that is great for removing dirt from walls and appliances. Who knew it could work on your skin too!
Scrubbing your temples to death with a washcloth will only make your skin red and will not likely remove hair dye stain. But the Magic Eraser works wonders where modern ordinary washcloths fail.
Be very careful not to “scrub”, or you will end up removing some skin and end up with red painful blotches. Just wet the sponge and use a gentle circular motion on the area you are trying to clean. The color should gently come off. Rubbing harder will not increase the effect, so don’t go overboard. Once you have removed that hair dye stain from your skin, you’ll just look like your gorgeous self, instead of looking like “I just came from the salon and had my roots dyed”. It’s like magic.

My Favorite Foundation
I am not a liquid foundation girl. Although I tend to have slightly splotchy skin due to all my freckles and sun damage, I still steer clear of overall foundation, especially the liquid kind. I just prefer a more natural fresh look as well as feeling. It’s just a personal preference. I am able to even out my skin tones by other means.
So, after I apply concealer to spots that need to be hidden, and sunscreen over everything, I finish the look with a powdered foundation. I use Revlon ColorStay Mineral Foundation in the color “fair”. It has an SPF 10. For some people, this product could feel very drying. I think that since I use it over my regular sunscreen that isn’t a problem for me. It fills in my pores and makes everything smooth and even. It also lasts a long time and stays in place. It’s so much easier to get a smooth even look with a powdered foundation as opposed to a liquid one. I use a big fluffy brush to apply it.
Remember, liquid foundation is not a preference for everyone, and this is a great option if you’re looking for an alternative.

My Favorite Wrinkle Cream
In the never ending search for the perfect miracle cream to stop these wrinkles, I am currently using Loreal “Advanced Revitalift Anti-wrinkle concentrate”. I have not been using it very long, so the jury is still out on this product for me as to whether I will continue to purchase it in the future or not.
From what I have learned so far, it does make my skin feel very silky and not gummy like many other moisturizers. It does seem to produce some toning to my skin as well. I wish I could say that it has erased my wrinkles, but I think it will truly take a real miracle to do that. Either a miracle or something more drastic like surgery, which I am not exactly keen on doing. My vanity has not gone there yet!
The Revitalift cream comes in a very handy tube, which I really like, as opposed to those awkward jars that most creams come packaged in. This should make it easy for travel.
So, while I wait to see if it truly has wondrous effects, I do know that I already like it better than most other similar products I have tried. I wonder if others will have the same beauty results.

My Favorite Daily Lip Color
For my continuing reviews of my daily products, I am now to my lip color. For several years now, I have been a huge fan of CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lip Color. The color I wear most often is #815.
This product comes with two parts. First is the color part. It reminds me of a paint. You must apply it to dry lips. It won’t look good on lips that are already very dry or flaking though. After you apply the color, you wait a minute or so and then apply the top moisturizer coat. That part is clear and glides on very smoothly. If you wear it with out the moisturizer, it will feel very drying and uncomfortable, not to mention that it won’t look that good. I have found that a very light coat will give me a lot of color that lasts a long time.
As for it’s lasting ability – I have found that it lasts a very long time! Even all day, including eating and through some “light” kissing LOL. However, greasy foods will cause it to come right off onto your napkin. In fact the only way to remove this lip color is with some cold cream greasy type makeup remover, or some sort of oil based remover like vaseline.
It seems to be a pretty good value when you consider how long it will last. However I usually use up the moisturizer tube long before I run out of the color. Fortunately I can buy more tubes of the moisturizer separately without having to buy more of the entire product.
They have a huge variety of colors to choose from, and the long lasting look is definitely my favorite part!

My Favorite Blush
My daily makeup routine includes Almay Powder Blush. I use “pink” number 140. It seems to be the color that is best suited for me, and I have had trouble finding similar colors in other brands. This has resulted in me using this for a long time. Recently when I did finally locate some after having trouble, I bought 3 packs of it so that it would last me a long time before I had that trouble again!
This blush does not have that shimmery look to it, which I hate. I don’t like a shimmery blush because it tends to accentuate my wrinkles (I know! I can’t believe I am admitting I have wrinkles!!). It is also not overly scented like a lot of other blushers. If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s highly scented makeup which conflicts with the scents I actually want to wear.
It blends easily and looks very natural. I often use it to add a little color just under my brow area as well, so that I don’t look so pale.
It doesn’t last as long as an “all day” type blush would last, but I find that it blends better than the cream blushers do, which definitely meets my needs. The application brush is a little small for my needs though, so I usually use one of my nice long-handled brushes to apply it.

My Daily Products: Mascara
My daily makeup routine includes Almay “one coat nourishing mascara”. I prefer the “thickening” variety, in the color black.
I have tried a lot of different mascaras over the years, but I always seem to come back to this one. It has never let me down. I am a contact lens wearer, so my mascara brand is very important. This one does not flake off, it’s easy to apply, and it really makes my lashes look thicker. I usually only need one coat to get the effect I want, which lives up to it’s name!
It’s easy to wash off with soap and water. I don’t normally wear the waterproof one since it’s much harder to remove. This one will run if I get really wet (like surfing!), but it’s not too bad if I’m just crying at a beautiful wedding.
It’s super comfortable, very affordable, and gives me the look I want. I have been using it for many years and will continue.

My favorite Concealer
This is the second entry where I am reviewing all of the products that I use on a regular basis. This week it is my concealer! I use Revlon ColorStay Blemish Concealer, in the color “fair”.
I just discovered this product about a year ago and I love it. It is great for small blemishes that I want to cover and it really does last all day. It’s like a nice paint when it goes on and it won’t come off after it dries. Hide those blemishes! Most of the blemishes that I am trying to conceal are actually dark sunspots caused by sun damage that I got when I was younger and never wore any sunscreen. It does a good job of concealing them and blending in with my natural skin color.
I like the applicator on the wand since it helps blend and spread nicely. It’s also a great value and really seems to last a long time. This is definitely a winner and something I will continue to buy.

My favorite products: Eyeliner
For the next few weeks, I am going to talk about some of the products that I use on a regular basis. they are part of my daily make up routine which usually takes me only 5-10 minutes.
Today I will discuss my favorite eyeliner. I love the Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus eye pencil. My favorite color is #210 “espresso” which is a dark brown color. I find that it is not as harsh as using a black eyeliner.
It’s an auto loading pencil, so I don’t have to use a sharpener on it. It’s easy to blend and even has a built in sponge tip on the end of it to use for soft blending, which I love. The cover to protect the top stays on well, so it travels well in my purse.
It is a water soluble eye liner, so it doesn’t always last as long as I wish it would, especially if I’m sweating really hard like working out or dancing in a hot dance floor, but I figure if I’m that sweaty then what’s the difference anyway!
It’s also very comfortable which is important to me since I am also a contact lens wearer.
