Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

For most, the hair on our heads is all we really want.  Desiring to remove unwanted hair on other areas of the body is an ever-growing industry.  There are several methods available to remove this unwanted hair, but very few of them will take care of the hair permanently or on the first try.  When looking into the options, be sure to select the method or combination of methods that is best for you depending on cost, time, skin-type and hair.

Threading is used in beauty clinics and mall kiosks for removing facial hair.  The results are similar to plucking and not permanent.

Waxing is done by applying a heated wax to the hair followed by a strip of waxing paper. Hair is then ripped out by the root.  Although this lasts longer than shaving, it can cause some discomfort and skin irritation.

Depilation is a process that uses chemicals to dissolve the hair.  This usually lasts as long as waxing but has the major side effect of skin irritation due to the chemicals melting away skin cells as well as the unwanted hair.

Electrolysis uses fine-gauge needles that are inserted into hair follicles.  Then an electric current is applied to the root, burning the hair root and stopping the production of more hair.  This procedure lasts longer than others, but requires repeated treatments up to 18 months to be a permanent solution.

Laser treatments are becoming more affordable thanks to newer and more cost-effective treatments being introduced.  Although this may currently be the most effective way to eliminate unwanted hair, it is not always permanent and not for everyone.  Those with light skin and dark hair will see the most benefit.  Laser hair removal works by emitting light at different wavelengths into the skin which normally targets the melanin.

Makeup Tips for Smokin’ Eyes

This year, many of us are trying to achieve that ever-popular smoky eyes look.  We see it in multitudes of commercials and all over the red carpet.  How do you create that smoldering look at home?  Easy!  Start by blending a light shade of eye shadow across the entire lid from the lash line to the brow bone.

Next, apply a darker eye shadow to the outer corners of the lids and along the lower lash line forming a sideways V shape.  To create an even more dramatic effect, use darker shades of blues and purples (as long as they complement your natural eye color).  After applying eye liner to the upper and lower lash lines, start smudging.  Smudge it good!

Don’t go too crazy smudging though or you will to look like a raccoon.  Finish off this dramatic look with a couple of coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.  You’ll be smokin’!

Makeup Tips to Brighten Blues Eyes

Blue-eyed beauties have been looked up to for decades.  If you’ve been blessed with blue eyes, don’t take that for granted.  Make the most of it.  Most of us think that eye shadow in icy pinks are the way to go, but shades of pink and coral can often make the whites of your eyes look bloodshot or yellowed.  Broaden your horizons and think about some complimentary eyeshadow colors that can help your blues eyes POP!

To highlight those vibrant blue peepers, try some warmer colors.  Eye-shadows in sun-kissed shades of brown, gold, and taupe will increase the impact of your eyes.  For the nighttime, try mixing dark shades of turquoise, fuchsia, and even blue itself with black eyeliner.  The darker framework will make the light of your eyes really stand out!

Makeup Tips to look Younger

Young and Simple.  Who wouldn’t like to look a little younger?  To create the illusion of youth for your eyes, go with a much simpler eye make-up approach.  Start by lining the upper and lower lashes a bit heavier than normal and then smudge to create a soft, shadowy effect.  Keep the eye shadow simple by using a highlight color with a little shimmer to it like gold or silver.  Only apply the eye shadow to the middle section of the lids and then spend some time blending the soft color outward.

To finish off this youthful look, apply a couple of coats of lengthening mascara to the top lashes only.  Experiment with some of the new shimmery products on the market today like mascara with “diamond” dust or shimmering effects.  To open the eyes up a bit more and enhance the youthful, doe-eyed look, apply a small amount of white or silver eye shadow to the innermost corners of the eye and blend slightly.

Eyebrow Maintenance

Eyebrows can be such a mystery to women. Figuring out your shape is tough, deciding on how you want to remove the hair is awful, and even understanding how to take care of them can be a chore. Do you brush them when you put on your makeup? How often should you remove the hair? Do they need cleaned? Well, let’s see..!

Should you brush your eyebrows? Yes! It sounds silly, but taking an eyebrow brush and running it backwards along your brows, and then smoothing them back out can really add definition to your shape. The results are instant, and you might be surprised!

How often should you remove the hair? If you pluck your eyebrows, you can freely pluck the pesky hairs away as they grow back. If you wax, you’ll need to wait until the hair reaches a certain length, which differs between wax types. There is no set time amount, it all depends on what you can stand.

Do you need to clean your brows? Well, they usually get cleaned pretty nicely when you wash your face or while you’re in the shower! They don’t absolutely need to be washed, but it definitely can’t hurt them! In fact, some people say that conditioning them like you would your hair does wonders for them. This is also up to personal preference.

Eyebrows are one of those facial features that many women just don’t understand, but don’t worry! They’ll look gorgeous in no time!

Eyebrow colors

Have you ever seen a girl with bright blonde hair and dark eyebrows and thought, “Wow, that looks funny!”? When most people get their hair dyed, they don’t even stop to think about the color of their eyebrows. I’m not sure why it is, but the thought just doesn’t occur to most people that the colors won’t match! If you think about it logically, mismatching combos just don’t seem to mesh well! You wouldn’t want your roots showing up as drastically, would you? I didn’t think so.

But what can you really do? You can’t dye your eyebrows, right? Wrong! Eyebrows can be dyed; and most stylists will be willing to help you out. Now, this is something you will need to keep up on, but if you have it done each time you head in to get your roots touched up, you should be okay!

Eyebrows dyed a shade or two lighter or darker than your hair color look excellent. They don’t have that fake look to them at all, and they blend in very nicely with your new color. Alternatively, if you have light brows and are heading to a darker shade, you can easily cover them up with an eyebrow pencil. No one will ever know that you have to do it; it can be your little secret!

Determine your Eyebrow Shape

Trying to figure out your eyebrow shape is tricky. Your eyebrows are one of the most prominant features on your face. Personally I feel there is a recent trend to over-groom and trim eyebrows, which is a mistake. If more women took the time to research and actually see how their own eyebrow should be shaped, rather than just attacking it with the tweezers, they would probably be happier with their results.

I found a great video that shows how to line up a stick with various parts of your eye and face in order to determine where your brows should be. Pay close attention to when she says line it up with your “iris” or the outer corner of the tear duct. And then just be careful not to over-do it!
