Cream Eye Shadow vs. Powder

Eye shadow is one of those things that people can be very picky about. Some people swear by powders, while others say that nothing can beat a good cream. Both can be good for different occasions, and if you haven’t used one or the other, I suggest you try.

Powders are the better known type, and are what most people think of when they hear the word eye shadow. You need a brush to apply them, and the blending can be a bit tough if you’re not used to doing it. On the other hand, creams can be applied with your fingers and blend smoothly, but are thicker and don’t always feel as nice.

If you decide to use a powder, it will look light and feminine. The downside is that it may end up looking splotchy, depending on the brand. To keep it simply looking pretty and feminine, try applying a primer beforehand. You don’t need to go expensive for this, either!

On the other hand, if you want a cream, it will look very smooth and, well, creamy! With this type, the downside is that it can go on too heavy or dark. Remember to only apply a tiny bit at a time, and to blend! You will be an expert in no time.

Both types of eye shadow have their advantages and disadvantages, and it all comes down to which one feels the best to you. You can find ways to be beautiful with each one, no matter your preferences.!

Vivid Hair Colors

Dying your hair colors such as bright red or even something that stands out a bit more, like pink or blue, can end with you wanting to just scream! Why is that? Because the color seems to fade so fast! Not only do those with vivid shades have to fix their roots, but they sometimes need a touch-up of color to fix the awful fading.

Sadly, there isn’t too much that can be done about this problem. Your best defense is to avoid shampooing daily. When you shampoo your hair each and every day, it not only strips it of essential oils, but it also pulls those bits of color out and down the drain super fast! Now, when you do shampoo, remember to stick to a special color treated type. Same goes for conditioner!

Also, if you’re a big fan of the sun, these colors are not for you. Heading out into the bright sunlight will make them fade like nothing else.

Don’t be afraid to rock those bright colors any longer! Remember, if it gets too faded, all you have to do is have another day of pampering yourself at the salon.

Cleaning Out Your Makeup Kit

After a certain point in your makeup’s life, it is time to say goodbye to it and throw it away. This can be a very hard thing to do, considering how much money people invest in their choices! Also, no matter if it is an expensive brand or a cheap one, we tend to get attached to our favorite shades of eyeshadow or that one eyeliner that always gives you the perfect look. How many times have you picked up a tube of lipstick and wondered how long you had owned it, or realized that you weren’t even sure where it had come from anymore?

For the most part, any piece of makeup that is over two years old should be tossed. Some have an even shorter shelf life, lasting only up to six months. I know, I know, it’s hard! But think of the good you are doing for your skin! Better than that, think about the shopping spree you can have buying all new makeup!

The first thing you should do is lay everything out in the open; look at all of it and check to see if there is anything you have had longer than two years. Set all of that aside in a pile. Next, try smelling each piece; if it smells bad, it should go into the toss pile. While you’re at it, why don’t you get rid of the things that you just don’t use anymore as well?

Now for the hard part! Everything that went into your toss pile should be, well, tossed! Into the garbage for all of it. Think about what you’re left with as the beginning to a wonderful new relationship; and now it’s time to add in some friends! Happy shopping, girls!

The Right Foundation

Have you ever walked out of the house only to notice that your foundation didn’t quite match your skin tone? It’s actually very common! Many people put on their foundation, make sure that it is blended well, and generally do everything right… and then find out that they’ve been using the wrong shade. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us! Each company has a different palette of shades that they use.

The trick to a great base is finding out which shade matches your skin tone. It may sound tough, but it isn’t. Actually, one of the best ways to do it might even be fun! If you have access to a local mall, you can get a bit of help; a second opinion. The workers at the makeup counters can assist you in finding that perfect color. And how do they do this? By testing.

Before you pick any foundation, you should test it out. Put it onto your skin and see if you can tell where it went on. If it blends in perfectly, you have your color! It sounds simple, but hundreds, if not thousands, of people have a problem with it each day.

Nails: Plain or Decorated?

In America, little girls like to put decals onto their nails in all shapes and colors.  In Japan, girls of all ages decorate their nails with decals and even larger plastic roses or dangling items.  The difference between the countries is incredible.

There are thousands of possibilities with fingernails, and everyone has their own preference for what looks good.  Some like complicated designs, large decals, plain matte colors, shimmering rainbows… even words painted on! However, the question still remains — do plain or decorated nails look the best?

For a woman with an important job, decorated nails would look silly, wouldn’t they?  On the other hand, tiny little cherry blossoms in white would look gorgeous on the nails of a bride.  There is no “best” look.  It all comes down to the event or daily activities that you will be showing your newly manicured nails off in.  Every girl has the right to beautiful nails, so make yours the prettiest you can and always have fun!

Soft Lips

Who doesn’t want soft, kissable lips? The surprising part of the thought is that they are right within your grasp!  Now, the normal way to achieve perfectly soft lips is to use moisturizing lip gloss or chapstick, but there is another way that isn’t advertised as much!

The next time you brush your teeth, don’t just set the toothbrush aside when you finish. Instead, run that brush over those lips. Really, it works! Brush lightly at them; it exfoliates them just like a good scrub would exfoliate your skin. There doesn’t need to be any toothpaste on the brush, though it wouldn’t hurt. (In fact, it would make them minty fresh, right?)

I guarantee that you will be surprised and impressed at the results of this strange little treatment! After you finish, applying a bit of gloss or chapstick will keep them feeling soft for hours.

Dry Skin vs. Makeup

Having dry skin can be beyond annoying, and can make it very hard to pick out makeup.  People often wonder what they can use to make their skin look good, or if it will ever look good again! Dry skin is definitely bothersome, but surprise! Your skin, even if dry, can look model-beautiful in no time.

While most skin types should avoid oil based makeup, people with dry skin should flock towards it as though there is no other makeup type in the world.  Water-based works just as well. Basically, as long as you are not using a powder for concealer or foundation, your skin will appreciate it. Creams do wonders for that dryness.

But what can you do to prevent it from staying so dry? Easy; exfoliate and take good care of your skin. It needs daily attention, so simply working at it once or twice a week isn’t good enough. Wash it daily, exfoliate at least once a week, and remember to sleep enough.

After a few weeks of treating your skin in the way it deserves, you won’t even have to worry about picking out makeup specifically for it.

Covering Scars

Scars, if you are self conscious about them, can be very in-the-way and frustrating. More than once, I have seen people wearing long sleeves to hide them or even asking people to Photoshop them out! There are creams that you can apply that will lessen their appearance, but this does take time. In the meantime, why not just cover them up with makeup?

There are actually creams, such as DermaColor or Dermablend, that help you do just this! You apply them in a similar fashion as any concealer; making sure to cover your scar completely, and that’s it! Cover with a powder, and tada! Your scar is neatly hidden underneath a layer of makeup.

This technique also works with birthmarks or discoloration. In fact, I recommend it for simply evening out skin tone in small amounts as well! Small defects can be embarrassing to some, but don’t worry. There is always a way to make yourself feel beautiful again.

Blending Eyeshadow

Eyeshadow is an everyday thing for many people, and at first glance it is hardly something to be worried about. You pick a color that goes well with what you are wearing or your skin tone, and simply brush it on. That’s it, time to leave! Right? Well, that could be the end to a wonderful eyeshadow story, but sometimes it leaves people wishing for more.

One thing that eyeshadow wearers forget very often is that blending goes a very, very long way. It can be as easy as blending the eyeshadow in to the rest of your makeup to create a very smooth look, or it can be more complex; such as blending two or more shades together. Either way,  it will get rid of the rough edges.

Have you ever noticed how some eyeshadow stands out and looks like a piece of the puzzle went missing? This is what blending will fix! Simple use a small brush to smooth it out, letting it mix into the surrounding colors or makeup. Be careful not to blend too high or too much on either side though! If you decide to use multiple shades, it works exactly the same. A painter wouldn’t forget to blend each shade of blue in an ocean, would he? Of course not; that would look silly!

The next time you pull out your eyeshadow brush, just remember that; your eyelid is your canvas. Blend, blend, blend!

Turning Day to Night

If you have a short period of time between work and a party or just can’t quite take the time to completely redo your makeup, don’t worry!  Turning your daytime look into a night-time look is surprisingly easy, once you get the hang of it.  It is almost entirely in the eyes.

First, you need to pick out an eyeshadow that is just a few shades darker than the one you wore during the day. Don’t switch to another color, that would add an extra step! Brush it on in thin layers, until you achieve the darkness you prefer.  A tiny bit of dark eyeliner smudged underneath your eyes (and just a tiny bit!) will help add to the dramatic transformation.

Next, add a fresh layer of mascara to your lashes, and a bit of color to your lips. That’s it! In three easy steps, you have successfully turned an everyday look into a gorgeous dramatic one.  Time to hit the clubs; have fun!
